Great Eggspectations

Eggspectation  5/5

Food: 4.5/5

Value for money: 5/5

Service: 5/5

Venue & Atmosphere: 5/5

On our way to the Maldives we had a stop over in Dubai for three days. With so much to eat in so little time, we were incredibly spoilt for choice. Unfortunately for us, temperatures in Dubai were reaching well over 35ºC, which meant it was so hot that we could only stomach two meals a day.

We were staying in the Ramada Plaza hotel on JBR walk, which is a 5 minute walk from a string of restaurants by the beach. Whilst taking a stroll on the beach one evening we passed Eggspectation. It was then that I remembered that I had seen this restaurant before on Instagram on missmulberry’s page. We had already tried IHOP for breakfast, and as Eggspectation seemed a bit different from the standard American chains on JBR walk, we decided to give it a try on our last day.

We turned up just before midday on a Friday to find a huge queue out the door and onto the sidewalk. Both the inside and the outside of the restaurant was heaving. Where most people would have been put off, we decided that anywhere this busy must be worth waiting for. Despite being told the wait would be 40 minutes we were pleasantly surprised to be given a table outside after just 15.

The menu was extensive (not to mention full of entertaining puns) and had we not seen how big the portions were, we probably wouldn’t have refrained when it came to ordering! As well as serving a variety of omelettes, pancakes and eggs Benedict, the menu also included a lunch/dinner menu of burgers, pastas and steaks. After much deliberation, ShakerFries ordered the ‘EGGSTRAVAGANZA,’ one of Eggspectation’s most popular dishes. This included two fried eggs, two slices of brioche french toast with pure Canadian maple syrup, a choice of beef bacon or sausages, and  lyonnaise-style potatoes. I opted for the less extravagant ‘Bacon n’ eggs Benedict’ with an orange Julius (Almond milk with fresh orange juice and vanilla ice cream!). We were both asked whether we would like our eggs cooked soft, medium or hard (we both opted for soft as we love our eggs runny!).

We waited roughly 15-20 minutes before our food arrived, with complimentary bread, butter and toast. ST struggled to finish his meal as the portion was so huge, and I just about managed to finish mine. I don’t think we expected it to be as filling as it was, but once we had finished we were more than satisfied. The turkey bacon was crispy, the eggs were cooked to perfection, and both our meals were served with a few pieces of fruit. The maple syrup was also a good accompaniment to the bacon and french toast. Overall my only regret was not being able to eat more! Next time I would definitely try the steak and eggs or lobster benny as it’s a bit more original to the standard eggs Benedict.

The customer service everywhere in Dubai always surpasses customer service in the UK, and Eggspectation was no exception as their staff were incredibly polite and attentive. The total bill came to roughly 182 Dhs (£37) for the both of us, which is a little on the pricey side for breakfast. That being said it’s good value for money as after this meal you won’t be hungry until dinner time.

If you’re looking for somewhere to have a heavy breakfast before a day of sightseeing I would definitely recommend Eggspectation. I would advise getting there early to avoid queuing, but even if you do end up waiting you definitely won’t be disappointed.
