We had the amazing opportunity to try some sweet treats from Sweets and Treats last week! This duo are the youngest Muslim entrepreneurs we have featured so far and we are proud to support them. Check out what they had to say about their business below.
Tell us a bit about yourselves. Who is the person behind sweets and treats?
Sweets and treats is operated by two of us, we are both 17 and have always had this idea of starting a sweet business, which is mainly due to our increasing love for sweets!
How long have you had your business?
Not very long! we started just few weeks ago, but the idea has been there for as long as we can remember.
What inspired you to start your business?
There are loads of sweets shops and retailers out there, however, being Muslim, there’s always the worry whether these sweets are halal. You have to constantly refer to the ingredients which can be tedious. We wanted to create a platform where you can choose from a wide range of halal sweets. Our business allows you to freely choose from a range of halal sweets without stressing about the ingredients!
What sets you apart from other halal sweet confectionery business’?
The difference between our business and other halal confectioners has to be the service and availability of sweets. We aim to maximize customer satisfaction by responding to customer needs and issues as soon as possible. We believe that responding to customers quickly is very important as we know how it feels to wait for sellers to respond to our esquires. We also strive to provide customers with whatever sweets they like when requested, as value the fact that our clients have their own taste, and in a business like ours, a wide range of sweets is important.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
That’s a no brainer! The best thing about this job has to be the amount of different sweets that we get to try.
What is your favorite sweet product and why?
Our personal favorite are the candy bags, mainly because they’re so convenient, I can eat them everywhere.
What are your future hopes and ambitions for your business?
Our future hopes is to expand sweets and treats and make it available to everyone.
Are all your products halal? If so are they HMC or HFA certified?
All our sweets are HMC certified, with the exception of our American sweets (which are still halal).
What are the biggest challenges you have faced in setting up this business, and how do you hope to overcome them?
The biggest challenge for us is getting our name out there. This is the first time we’ve invested our efforts into social media to get our product and brand recognized. We aim to overcome this issue going forward by promoting our product in whichever way possible, and then counting on word of mouth to further promote our brand.
What advice would you give to other young entrepreneurs who want to start their own business?
The main advice I would give is to be persistent. Many young people become impatient or face an issue and decide to just give up. Persistence is key when starting your own business.
How can people order your product/contact you?
The best way to contact us would be through our Instagram page (@sweets.andtreats), you can also Whatsapp us on 07496165525.
